Mount Olive, N.C. --- The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2017-18 University Division All-State Men's Basketball Teams on Tuesday. A total of 10 student-athletes from nine different North Carolina schools were named to the first and second teams.
UNC Wilmington was the only school with more than one All-State honoree as the Seahawks landed one first and one second-team member. Including the UMCW Seahawks, Campbell University, Appalachian State, Elon University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte all placed student-athletes on the NCCSIA First-Team All-State.
Campbell University's Chris Clemons was the only unanimous first-team honoree receiving 14 votes. Clemons averaged 33.9 minutes and 24.9 points per game starting 29 of 30 for the Camels. The junior guard scored 746 points throughout the season helping Campbell to an 18-16 season and an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational semifinals. Clemons makes his third consecutive appearance on the NCCSIA All-State First-Team.
Ronshad Shabazz, a junior guard from Appalachian State, received the second most votes, joining Clemons on the All-State First-Team. Shabazz was named to the Second-Team All-District 24 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and was also a Second-Team All-Sun Belt honoree. The Raleigh, N.C. native led the team in scoring at 18.5 ppg and also dished out a team-best and career-high 100 assists. He also posted a career-high 36 steals and shot .400 from the field.
UNCW's Devontae Cacok also made an appearance on the NCCSIA All-State First-Team. Cacok led the Seahawks, CAA and nation in rebounds with 431 boards in 32 appearances, gathering the most rebounds in a single season at UNCW and third highest in CAA history. He was recently named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches First-Team NABC All-District 10.
Elon's Tyler Seibring joins the previous three on the First-Team All-State. The Normal, Ill., native had a fantastic junior season as he averaged team-highs of 15.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest while averaging 18.0 points and 7.3 rebounds against CAA opponents. He scored in double figures in 29 of the team's 32 games and reached double figures in 20 straight contests to finish the season. Seibring was an NABC Second-Team All-District 10 honoree, a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second straight year, and an All-CAA Second Team honoree.
Rounding out the First-Team All-State is the only senior on the first-team, Jon Davis from UNC Charlotte. On the season Davis averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Davis is a two-time First-Team All-State honoree after picking up the laurels at the end of the 2016-17 season as well.
The NCCSIA All-State Second Team is comprised of a redshirt junior Raasean Davis of N.C. Central, a senior Jordon Talley from UNCW, a redshirt junior forward Femi Olujobi from N.C. A&T, a redshirt junior David Efianayi of Garnder-Webb, and junior guard Jahaad Proctor from High Point University.
Nominations were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
