NCCSIA Announces 2017 College Division All-State Men's Soccer Teams

WILSON, N.C. - The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2017 College Division All-State Men's Soccer Teams on Tuesday. 22 players from eight different North Carolina institutions were named to the 2017 NCCSIA College Division All-State Teams.

Lees-McRae received five selections overall with four players landing on the first team. Wingate had four players on the All-State teams, while Johnson & Wales, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Chowan each put three players on the distinguished list. Queens landed two selections, while Mount Olive and Barton each had one selection.

Johnson & Wales' Jalen Jackson, Mount Olive's Sebastian Loibl, and Lees-McRae's Pol Vassart were selected as the first-team forwards for 2017. Jackson scored 30 goals in 20 games this season for JWU, adding nine assists for 69 points. He also recorded four game-winning goals for the Wildcats. Loibl garnered Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team and D2CCA Southeast All-Region First Team accolades for Mount Olive. He led the conference in goals (15), points (38), and shots. Vassart received Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team honors while ranking second on the team in goals (12). He also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Tom Deeley and Nathan Watt of Lees-McRae, Filipe Checco of Wingate, and Sam Fanning of Johnson & Wales were named as the first-team midfielders. Deeley paced the Bobcats in goals scored (13) and points (34) en route to being named the Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year. He also received the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year award. Watt tallied a career-high 14 assists for Lees-McRae, which ranked No. 2 in the nation. He was named to the D2CCA All-Southeast Region Second Team. Checco earned All-SAC First Team honors for Wingate, who secured both the SAC regular season and tournament championships. His seven assists were tops in the SAC. Fanning tallied 18 points (6 G, 6 A) for the Wildcats in 19 games. He recorded a pair of game-winning goals and notched 15 shots on goal for JWU.

Lee's McRae's Harvey McMorrow, Michael Hornsby of Queens, and J.T. Fucci of Johnson & Wales were named as the first-team defenders. McMorrow was a Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team and D2CCA All-Southeast Region First Team selection for the Bobcats. His 17 points ranked fourth on the team. Hornsby started in every game for Queens, taking home SAC All-Conference First Team accolades. Fucci recorded 10 points in 12 games for Johnson & Wales. He matched a career-high with four goals with a pair being game-winners for the Wildcats.

Wingate's Pablo Jara was named as the first-team goalkeeper. An All-SAC First Team honoree, he registered 53 saves with a 0.82 goals against average for the Bulldogs. Jara recorded seven shutouts in 20 games started, compiling a 14-4-2 mark for Wingate. He was named to the All-SAC Tournament Team, allowing just one goal through three victories for the Bulldogs.

The NCCSIA All-State second-team is comprised of Chowan's Lee Wattam, Josh Baker, and Elliot Chadderton, Lenoir-Rhyne's Ignacio de Goya, Victor Cascon, and Sercan Cihan, Wingate's Elliot Cutts and Damian Gaona, Barton's Tolly Beatson, Queens' Edmundo Robinson, and Lees-McRae's James Morgan.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball, and baseball.
