The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2014 University Division All-State Women’s Soccer Teams on Monday. Twenty-two players representing seven different North Carolina universities were named to first and second teams.
Charlotte and UNCG lead the way with three selections to the
first team while High Point and Western Carolina each have two
selections and Gardner-Webb has one selection.
Goalkeeper Carly Tinstman was named to the first-team after a
sophomore season in which she started 18 games and went 8-7-4.
Tinstman finished the season with a 0.96 goals-against average and
six shutouts. She was second in the Southern Conference in
goals-against average and tied for fourth in shutouts.
Charlotte’s Taylor Dulaney was the leading vote getter
among defenders in 2014. Dulaney was named first-team
All-Conference USA and was one of three players to starts all 18
matches for the 49ers. She led a defense that posted six clean
sheets on the season with a 1.38 goals-against average.
High Point’s Alise LeCompte and UNCG’s Georgia Brown
join Dulaney as first-team defenders this season. LeCompte was
named first-team All-Big South and spearheaded a defense that
finished with a goals-against average of 1.25 and seven shutouts.
The Panther defense allowed just 99 shots on goal in 20 games and
just 26 in 10 conference games. Brown was named second-team
All-SoCon. She started in all 20 games for the Spartans and
recorded four assists. She was part of a defense that had a 1.31
goals-against average and five shutouts.
The first-team midfield is comprised of players from four North
Carolina schools. Rebecca Burrows of UNCG was the top vote getter
in the midfield and is the second Spartan player on the first team.
She was named second-team All-SoCon and finished with six points on
two goals and two assists. Charlotte’s Amanda Jones is the
second 49er named to the first-team. Jones earns her third NCCSIA
All-State recognition after finishing the 2014 season as a
first-team All-Conference USA honoree. She posted 11 points on the
season on four goals and three assists.
Western Carolina’s Kimberly Sullivan and High
Point’s Becca Rolfe join Burrows and Jones on the first-team
midfield. Sullivan started all 19 games for the Catamounts and
finished third on the team with three goals to go along with one
assist. Rolfe was named second-team All-Big South and a member of
the Big South All-Freshman team. She finished her first collegiate
season second on the Panthers with nine points on three goals and
three assists.
Chesney White of UNCG, Martha Thomas of Charlotte and Shelby Hooe
of Gardner-Webb comprise the first-team forwards in 2014. White was
named first-team All-SoCon after a season in which she set career
highs in goals, assists, points, shots and game-winning goals. She
led UNCG with 37 points on a team-high 15 goals and seven assists.
Thomas was selected as the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and
a second-team All-Conference member. She led Charlotte with 28
points on a team-high 11 goals and six assists. Hooe is the only
GWU player picked to the first-team. She was named first-team
All-Big South after notching a career-high 20 points on eight goals
and four assists.
The NCCSIA All-State second-team is comprised of High Point’s
Kelsey Perrell, Jenny Marshall and Jacky Kessler,
Gardner-Webb’s Krista Chauvin and Addison Abee, Western
Carolina’s Christina White and Markie-Lynn Studnicky,
Appalachian State’s Merlin Beckwith, Charlotte’s Sara
Trexler, UNCG’s Ashley Stokes and UNC Wilmington’s
Katrina Guillou
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports
Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information
professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent
institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the
organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools.
Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university
or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of
responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and
College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and
women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer,
volleyball, softball and baseball.
