NCCSIA Announces 2013-14 North Carolina University Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team

The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced the 2013-14 University Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team on Tuesday. Ten players representing seven different North Carolina Universities were named to the 2013-14 NCCSIA University Division All-State Teams.

The first-team All-State team is comprised of High Point sophomore forward John Brown, North Carolina Central senior guard Jeremy Ingram, UNC Asheville freshman guard Andrew Rowsey, Western Carolina senior guard Trey Sumler and Elon senior forward Lucas Troutman. Brown is a repeat first-team All-State selection. While, Ingram, Sumler and Troutman earned second-team All-State honors last season.

Brown, who averaged 19.5 points and 7.7 rebounds, was named Big South Player of the Year. He earned first team All-Big South and NABC All-District honors. He was also an honorable-mention AP All-American. This past season, he became the first player in Big South history to score 1,000 career points by the end of their sophomore season.

Ingram, who averaged 20.6 points per game, was named MEAC Player of the Year after helping North Carolina Central capture the MEAC regular-season and tournament titles. He was named MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Performer as well as a first-team NABC All-District selection. He earned MEAC Player of the Week honors four times. He finished his career ranked among the Top Ten in school history in career points.

Rowsey, who averaged 20.3 points per game, was named Big South Freshman of the Year. He also earned first-team All-Big South honors after leading the league in scoring. He set a UNC Asheville single-season record with 106 threes this past season.

Sumler, averaged 17.4 points per game, was named first-team All-Southern Conference. He finished his career ranked third in school history with 1,996 career points. He finished his career ranked in Western Carolina’s top ten in 14 career statistical categories.

Troutman, who averaged 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, was named first-team All-Southern Conference. He also earned NABC first-team All-District honors. He finished in the top ten in the Southern Conference in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots.

The NCCSIA All-State second-team is comprised of East Carolina’s Akeem Richmond, UNC Greensboro’s Kyle Cain, UNC Asheville teammates D.J. Cunningham and Jaron Lane and High Point’s Devante Wallace.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
